Clan MacPherson traces its history to the 12th century in Badenoch, lands granted after the clan helped bring down Clan Comyn in the name of Robert the Bruce. The clan’s most famous chief, Ewen MacPherson of Cluny, led his men in the 1745 Jacobite rising and evaded a £1,000 bounty on his head after Culloden by hiding in the hills of his own territory for years. Cluny Castle remains the clan’s historic seat to this day.
