The Clergy tartan is the rare occupational tartan — the one worn by ministers, first recorded as the “Priest” tartan by Wilsons of Bannockburn and set down by James Logan in 1831.
Its colours follow an old rule that Highland clergy should wear Highland dress but no bright colours: this version is a quiet, deep blue crossed with black. It reads as sober and dignified, which is exactly the point.
It suits formal and ceremonial wear, and anyone drawn to a restrained, understated tartan rather than a loud clan sett. Wear it with a leather sporran and a ghillie shirt.
