Every Anderson recognises this one, and it’s a tartan worth recognising: one of the few woven in seven colours where most run to six or fewer.
This is the Ancient version, so the palette is soft: a sky-blue ground crossed with red, green, yellow, white and black in the gentler tones of pre-1860 natural dyes. The tartan was collected by the Highland Society of London around 1815, and the Andersons themselves trace to the Scottish Lowlands.
It carries well at weddings, Burns Nights, and Highland Games from Scotland to the Anderson families spread across Canada and the States. Wear it with an Argyll jacket and a set of kilt hose, finished with matching tartan flashes.
