The Ayrshire Blairs were granted the Barony of Blair by King William I of Scots, and Blair Castle in Dalry served as their seat for roughly 800 years — one of the oldest continuously inhabited baronial mansions in Scotland.</p>
<p>Roger de Blair fought alongside Robert the Bruce at Bannockburn in 1314 and was rewarded with royal favour for it. The clan motto, “Amo Probos” — Love the Virtuous — still stands as the family’s guiding word, with a stag as its crest.</p>
