Clan Boyd held Kilmarnock in Ayrshire from Dean Castle, and rose to become Earls of Kilmarnock. The name is said to come from the Gaelic for the Isle of Bute, “Bód.”
The sett is a red ground crossed with blocks of dark green and lit by fine yellow and white lines. It is a bright, balanced tartan in the Ayrshire style.
It suits weddings, clan gatherings, and Highland Games, and carries the name of the Boyds of Kilmarnock. Wear it with an Argyll jacket and a semi-dress sporran, finished with a set of kilt hose.
