Every Comyn — or Cumming, as the name mostly became — is tied to one of the most powerful families of medieval Scotland.
The sett is a bright red ground bisected by dark green and navy, with fine black and white lines. The tartan was registered in 1850, certified by the clan chief of the day. The family descends from Robert de Comyn, a Norman who came north around 1120 under David I; the Comyns held vast power until their fall, after which the chiefship passed to the Cummings of Altyre.
It’s worn at weddings, clan events, and Highland Games by Comyns and Cummings alike. Wear it with an Argyll jacket and a set of kilt hose.
