Clan Glasgow Common Wealth Tartan Kilt

This is Glasgow’s own tartan, designed for the 2014 Commonwealth Games and carrying the city’s colours rather than any single family’s.

The sett runs on a bright green ground crossed by blue, with bands of red, gold and purple where the lines meet. Blue, yellow and red represent Scotland’s national colours, and the green was chosen to reflect the diversity of the pupils at the Glasgow school where the design was born.

The tartan was designed by Aamir Mehmood, a fifteen-year-old pupil at Shawlands Academy, who won a countrywide competition to create the official tartan for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. It went on to be worn by medal bearers at the Games themselves, a genuinely modern addition to Scotland’s tartan story.

It suits anyone with a connection to Glasgow, Highland Games, civic occasions or sporting events where a modern, city-rooted tartan feels right. Wear it with a leather sporran, add a leather kilt belt, and finish with a set of kilt hose.

Woven in tartan wool blend as a 5-yard kilt, or 8-yard for deeper pleating and heavier drape. Knife-pleated at the back with a flat front apron, fastened with leather straps and metal buckles. Made to your measurements, so send your waist and length and it is cut to fit.
