<p>The Kidd surname is documented as far back as 1357, with Robertus Kyd de Dunde recorded in Angus. The tartan itself has an unusual history: Wilsons of Bannockburn originally wove and sold this pattern as the “Caledonia” or No. 43 sett — the same design associated with Clan MacPherson — before it was purchased by a man named Kidd on Scotland’s east coast in 1819, after which it began to be recorded in their pattern books as the “Kidd” tartan. Kidd is not a clan formally recognised by the Court of the Lord Lyon, and families bearing the name often wear tartans tied to their home regions, such as Angus or Fife, alongside this one.</p>
<p>This rich crimson colourway suits weddings, Highland games, and any occasion calling for a striking, storied tartan.</p>
