Every Leslie traces back to a Hungarian nobleman named Bartolf, and this tartan carries the green and blue of Aberdeenshire with a bright red and white overcheck.

The sett runs on deep green and navy blocks, crossed with red and white lines. It sits between the clan’s two best-known setts, the green Hunting and the red Dress, carrying colour from both into one balanced pattern.

Bartolf was awarded lands in Fife, Angus and Aberdeenshire after being made Governor of Edinburgh Castle in the 11th century, and the Leslie name has held historical seats at Wardhill Castle and Balquhain Castle in Aberdeenshire ever since. The clan’s long standing in the northeast of Scotland runs through nearly a thousand years of history.

It suits Highland Games, weddings, Burns Night, or anyone with Leslie roots in Aberdeenshire. Pair it with an Argyll jacket, add a leather sporran, and finish with kilt hose.

Woven in tartan wool blend as a 5-yard kilt, or 8-yard for deeper pleating and heavier drape. Knife-pleated at the back with a flat front apron, fastened with leather straps and metal buckles. Made to your measurements, so send your waist and length and it is cut to fit.
