Every MacNaughton descends from a genuinely ancient line, traced back to the Pictish rulers of Moray and a tenth-century progenitor, Nechtan Mor.
The sett is vivid: a mainly red ground bisected by bottle green and dark navy, a bold tri-coloured pattern with fine black lines. It was compiled by James Logan between 1826 and 1831 for his book The Scottish Gael, and its structure closely echoes the MacDuff.
It’s worn at weddings, clan gatherings, and Highland Games by MacNaughtons at home and abroad. Wear it with a leather sporran and a matching set of tartan flashes.
