<p>Clan MacIntyre’s name translates as “son of the carpenter,” and according to legend the clan migrated from the Hebrides to the mainland around the 13th century, settling at Glen Noe in Argyll. They served for centuries as hereditary foresters and bards to the powerful Clan Campbell and the Lords of Lorne. MacIntyres living at Cladich, near Glen Noe on Loch Awe, became especially renowned for their weaving, producing distinctive diamond-patterned “Cladich” stockings and garters that became a staple of Highland dress. The clan motto, “Per Ardua” — through adversity — reflects their long history as a resilient Highland family.</p>
