Clan Mackay Tartan Kilt

Every Mackay carries the strength of Strathnaver in this tartan, a deep green and navy check that has marked the clan for generations.

Clan Mackay held Strathnaver in the far north of Sutherland from at least the 14th century, and by the 15th they were one of the most powerful clans in the Highlands. They fought in battles against neighbouring clans and later against the Jacobite rising, and their motto, “Manu Forti” — with a strong hand — still speaks to that history of resilience.
