Every McKinney carries a name rooted in the Gaelic “Mac Cionaodha,” son of Aodh, and this tartan wears it in a soft cream ground rather than the darker colours of most Highland setts.

The sett runs on cream, crossed with green and navy blocks and a fine red line. It reads as light and dressy against the deeper tartans around it, a pattern built to stand out at formal occasions.

McKinney is a branch of Clan MacKinnon, first recorded in Scotland in the mid-15th century around Glasgow and Wigtownshire, and later carried into Ulster’s Tyrone and Fermanagh areas by families of Scottish descent. That path from the Scottish Lowlands to Ireland and beyond has made McKinney one of the more widely travelled Highland names.

It suits weddings, Highland Games, Burns Night, or anyone with McKinney or MacKinnon roots. Pair it with a Prince Charlie jacket, add a dress sporran, and finish with ghillie brogues.

Woven in tartan wool blend as a 5-yard kilt, or 8-yard for deeper pleating and heavier drape. Knife-pleated at the back with a flat front apron, fastened with leather straps and metal buckles. Made to your measurements, so send your waist and length and it is cut to fit.

The craftsmanship on the Clan Mckinney Tartan Kilt is remarkable. A proper kilt that feels both traditional and comfortable to wear all day.
