Every Moore, or Muir, carries the moorlands of Ayrshire in this tartan, blue and green crossed with narrow red stripes and a thread of gold.
The sett runs on a blue, black and green ground, with three narrow red stripes and fine yellow lines threaded through. The colours are said to trace the lochs, woodlands and rolling moorlands of Ayrshire, home ground for the Muir branch of the family.
Clan Muir, often anglicised to Moore, is prevalent in Ayrshire, while the related Moir name is more often linked to Clan Gordon in Aberdeenshire. The family tartan was dated to 1930, a comparatively recent addition to Scotland’s long tradition of clan setts, but rooted in the same landscapes the family has called home for generations.
It suits Highland Games, weddings, Burns Night, or anyone with Moore, Muir, or Ayrshire roots. Pair it with a leather sporran, add a belt buckle, and finish with kilt hose.
