<p>East Kilbride takes its name from St Bride, an Irish saint, with its original parish church built on the site of a pre-Christian sacred well. The first written records of the area date to the 12th century, when the land was gifted to Roger de Valoins, and ownership later passed through the Comyns, Bruces, Stewarts, and Lindsays. In 1947, East Kilbride became Scotland’s first post-war New Town. This district tartan isn’t tied to a single family — it belongs to the town itself, free for anyone with roots there to wear.</p>
