<p>Grampian is a district tartan named for the Grampian Mountains, the range that historically divides Scotland’s Highlands from its Lowlands and gave its name to the old Grampian region — Aberdeenshire, the City of Aberdeen, and Moray — before local government boundaries changed in 1996. The name itself descends from “Mons Graupius,” the Latin name recorded by the Roman historian Tacitus for the site where the Roman general Agricola defeated the native Caledonians around 83 AD, making it one of the oldest place-names still in everyday use in Scotland. As a district tartan, it carries no clan chief and is open to anyone who feels a connection to the mountains and the region.</p>
