<p>MacDonald of Kingsburgh is a branch of Clan Donald tied to the Kingsburgh estate on the Isle of Skye, forever linked to one of the most famous episodes of the Jacobite rising. After the defeat at Culloden in 1746, Bonnie Prince Charlie evaded government troops for months with the help of Flora MacDonald, who disguised him as her Irish maidservant to smuggle him “over the sea to Skye.” The party stayed the night at Kingsburgh, where Allan MacDonald of Kingsburgh gave the Prince a tartan waistcoat to change into once he laid aside his woman’s clothes at the edge of the wood — a relic still remembered in Jacobite history today.</p>
