<p>The Macleod of Lewis Weathered Tartan Kilt takes the clan’s famously bold yellow sett and softens it into a warm golden-olive ground, crossed with dark green windowpane lines and fine red pinlines. It’s a time-worn take on one of the most recognisable tartans in Scotland.</p>
<p>Clan MacLeod traces its descent from Leod, a younger son of Olaf the Black, one of the last Norse kings of Man, whose marriage to the daughter of the Norse steward of Skye brought the family to Dunvegan. When Leod died around 1280, his lands were divided between his two sons in the old Norse tradition — one branch became the MacLeods of Harris and Dunvegan, and the other, founded by his son Torquil, became the Siol Torquil: the MacLeods of Lewis and Assynt. In the 14th century, King David II granted Torquil MacLeod the barony of Assynt, and the Siol Torquil grew powerful enough to rival their Dunvegan cousins, though a long run of feuds in the 16th century eventually saw the main Lewis line die out, with the chiefship passing to the MacLeods of Raasay.</p>
<p>This weathered, golden colourway suits everyday Highland wear and any occasion where a MacLeod wants their tartan to feel storied rather than brand new.</p>
<p>Each kilt is made to measure from a premium wool blend, hand-pleated to the sett, with a flat front apron and the traditional leather straps and buckles at the waist.</p>
