<p>Owen is one of Wales’s oldest surnames, rooted in the Old Welsh personal name Ouein — itself derived from the Latin Eugenius, meaning “noble” or “well-born.” The name was first recorded in Montgomeryshire in mid-eastern Wales, where the Owen family held a seat from ancient times, and it later gave rise to the related surname Bowen through the patronymic “ab Owen.” Like Scotland’s clan tartans, Wales has its own modern tradition of surname tartans: the Owen tartan was developed in 2002 by the Wales Tartan Centre in Cardiff, in collaboration with Sheila Daniel of the historic Cambrian Woollen Mill, founded in 1830.</p>
<p>This deep forest-green colourway suits Highland games, weddings, and any occasion calling for a proud nod to Welsh heritage.</p>
<p>Each kilt is made to measure from a premium wool blend, hand-pleated to the sett, with a flat front apron and the traditional leather straps and buckles at the waist.</p>
